# ✦ ── Getting Started

Getting started with PyroFishing is simple - all you need is a **fishing rod and some water**.

You don't need any special equipment, levels or upgrades before you begin. Fish normally as you would in vanilla Minecraft.

From there, almost everything you do through PyroFishing contributes towards its wider progression systems.

***

### Your First Catch

Cast your fishing rod into any suitable body of water and wait for a bite.

Alongside ordinary Minecraft fishing loot, you can catch **custom PyroFishing fish**.

Custom fish belong to one of six rarity tiers:

* Bronze
* Silver
* Gold
* Diamond
* Platinum
* Mythical

Generally, higher-rarity fish are harder to find and more valuable.

**Tip:** Different custom fish can appear in different biomes, so travelling around the world and fishing in new locations will help you discover more species.
{% endhint %}

### The Fishing Menu

Most PyroFishing features can be accessed through the main fishing menu:

`/fish menu`

This is the best place to start if you're unsure where to find something.

From here you'll be able to access many of PyroFishing's systems, including your profile, Fish Codex, Fishing Skills, Deliveries, Augments and more.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** If you ever forget a command, try `/fish menu` first.
{% endhint %}

***

### The Fish Codex

PyroFishing keeps track of the custom fish you've discovered.

You can open your Fish Codex using:

`/fish codex`

The Codex allows you to keep track of which fish you've already caught and which ones you're still missing.

With **126 custom fish** available across Coppercore, completing the Codex can become a challenge of its own.

Some fish can only be found in particular environments, so don't expect to discover everything by sitting beside the same pond forever!

***

### Fishing Levels

Catching custom fish earns **Fishing XP**.

As you gain enough XP, your Fishing Level will increase.

Your Fishing Level is separate from your normal Minecraft experience level and is used specifically for PyroFishing progression.

Levelling up also gives you access to **Fishing Skills**, allowing you to gradually improve different parts of the fishing system.

You can view your fishing information using:

`/fish profile`

Fishing Levels and Skills are covered in more detail in the **Fishing Levels & Skills** guide.

***

### Entropy

While fishing, you'll also begin earning a resource called **Entropy**.

Entropy is one of PyroFishing's main progression resources and is used throughout several of its more advanced systems.

Don't worry too much about spending it immediately - when you're first starting out, simply continue fishing and allow your Entropy balance to build naturally.

You can view your Entropy using:

`/fish entropy`

For a full explanation of what it does and where it can be spent, see the **Entropy** guide.

### What Should I Do With Custom Fish?

Once you've caught some custom fish, you have several options.

You can:

* **Sell them** through the Fish Shop
* **Scale them** for a chance to increase their value
* **Gut them** for fishing resources
* Keep particularly interesting catches
* Continue catching fish to progress your Codex
* Use fishing towards Deliveries and other progression systems

You don't need to decide immediately.

If you're brand new to PyroFishing, simply catching and selling fish is perfectly fine while you learn how everything else works.

***

### Selling Fish

You can access the PyroFishing Fish Shop using:

`/fish shop`

Custom fish can be sold here for server money.

Their value depends partly on their rarity, with rarer fish generally being worth more.

Occasionally, a particular fish may also become a **Special Fish**, increasing its sell value for a limited period.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Before selling everything immediately, you may eventually want to learn about **Scales** and **Gutting**, as these give you alternative ways to use your catches.
{% endhint %}

***

### Your Fishing Bag

PyroFishing also provides access to your fishing bag through:

`/fish bag`

This gives you another way to manage fish you've caught while using the plugin's fishing systems.

***

### Crabs

Not everything you pull from the water is necessarily a fish.

There's a small chance while fishing that you'll encounter a **Crab** instead.

These are hostile fishing encounters that you'll need to defeat rather than simply collecting like an ordinary catch.

So if your relaxing fishing session suddenly develops legs and starts fighting back...

**yes, that's supposed to happen.**

***

### Party Fishing

Fishing near other players can also provide additional benefits through **Party Fishing**.

Players fishing close together can contribute towards a shared fishing bonus, encouraging groups to fish alongside one another rather than everyone disappearing into separate oceans.

The effect works within a limited nearby area and becomes stronger with additional participating players.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Fishing festivals and tournaments are a great excuse to get several players fishing in the same area.
{% endhint %}

### What Comes Next?

Once you've spent some time fishing, you'll naturally begin accumulating:

* Custom fish
* Fishing XP
* Fishing Levels
* Entropy
* Codex discoveries
* Progress towards Deliveries

That's when PyroFishing's larger progression systems start becoming useful.

From here, the best guides to explore next are:

**Fish & Rarities** - learn where different fish can be found and how rarity works.

**Fishing Levels & Skills** - learn how progression and Skill Points work.

**Entropy** - learn how PyroFishing's main resource is earned and spent.

**Fish Shop, Scales & Gutting** - learn what you can do with your catches.

You can then move into the more advanced systems such as **Deliveries, Augments and Fishing Totems** when you're ready.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Final reminder:** You don't need to understand every PyroFishing system before you start. Grab a rod, find some water and fish - most of the plugin will introduce itself naturally as you progress.
