# ✦ ── Fishing Levels & Skills

PyroFishing has its own **Fishing Level**, completely separate from your normal Minecraft experience level.

As you catch custom fish, you'll earn Fishing XP and gradually increase your Fishing Level. Levelling up unlocks access to more advanced fishing features and gives you **Skill Points** that can be spent on permanent fishing upgrades.

You can view your fishing statistics using:

`/fish profile`

And open your Fishing Skills with:

`/fish skills`

### Earning Fishing XP

Fishing XP is primarily earned by catching **custom fish**.

Different rarity tiers give different amounts of Fishing XP:

| **Fish Rarity** | **Fishing XP** |
| --------------- | -------------- |
| Bronze          | 75 XP          |
| Silver          | 150 XP         |
| Gold            | 300 XP         |
| Diamond         | 700 XP         |
| Platinum        | 1,700 XP       |
| Mythical        | 7,500 XP       |

The rarer the fish, the more progress it gives towards your next Fishing Level.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Catching a Mythical fish isn't just a nice payday - it gives a huge amount of Fishing XP compared with lower-tier catches.
{% endhint %}

### Why Does Fishing Level Matter?

Your Fishing Level is used throughout several parts of PyroFishing.

As you level up, you'll be able to:

* Earn and spend more Skill Points
* Improve Fishing Skills
* Unlock certain Augments
* Access more advanced fishing progression
* Unlock and use Fishing Totem features
* Improve skills that automatically scale with your Fishing Level

Your level therefore becomes increasingly important as you move into PyroFishing's more advanced systems.

### Skill Points

As your Fishing Level increases, you'll earn **Skill Points**.

These are spent through:

`/fish skills`

Coppercore currently has **8 enabled Fishing Skills**, split into two types:

#### Upgradable Skills

These can have Skill Points invested into them repeatedly.

The more points you spend, the stronger the skill becomes, although additional points gradually give **diminishing returns**.

Coppercore has four Upgradable Skills:

* Better Gutting
* Luck of the Catch
* Master Augmenter
* Totem Leader

#### One-Time Skills

These only need to be purchased once.

After unlocking one, you **do not continue spending Skill Points on it**. Instead, the skill automatically becomes stronger as your overall Fishing Level increases.

Coppercore has four One-Time Skills:

* Divine Judgement
* Tribal Shout
* Combo Catcher
* Augment Infusion

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** You don't need to unlock everything immediately. Think about which parts of fishing you use most and spend your Skill Points accordingly.
{% endhint %}

### Upgradable Skills

#### Better Gutting

**Better Gutting** increases the amount of Entropy you receive when gutting custom fish.

The more Skill Points invested into Better Gutting, the larger the bonus becomes.

This pairs particularly well with players who regularly use the Gutting Station to convert unwanted fish into additional Entropy.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Better Gutting and the **Precision Cutting** Augment are calculated independently rather than directly stacking together.
{% endhint %}

#### Luck of the Catch

**Luck of the Catch** increases the amount of Entropy you earn from catching custom fish.

Unlike Better Gutting, you don't need to sacrifice the fish afterwards - the bonus applies to the Entropy earned when the fish is originally caught.

If you're looking to steadily increase your Entropy income simply by fishing, this is a useful skill to invest in.

#### Master Augmenter

**Master Augmenter** reduces the Entropy cost of crafting Fishing Augments.

The more Skill Points invested into it, the greater the reduction becomes.

Because higher-level Augment crafting can require considerable amounts of Entropy, Master Augmenter becomes particularly useful once you start building and upgrading specialised fishing rods.

#### Totem Leader

**Totem Leader** reduces the cooldown of your Fishing Totem whenever you catch a fish.

Higher levels increase the amount of time removed from the cooldown with each catch.

This skill is mainly useful once you've progressed far enough to own and regularly use a Fishing Totem.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** If you haven't reached Fishing Totems yet, you may find your early Skill Points more useful elsewhere.
{% endhint %}

Bonus fish produced by effects such as **Hot Spot** don't provide additional Totem Leader cooldown reduction.

### One-Time Skills

#### Divine Judgement

**Divine Judgement** gives your catches a small chance to summon a special **Tsunami** fishing area.

Fishing inside the Tsunami gives catches a chance to be doubled.

Other nearby players can also benefit from a Tsunami you've created, making it useful during group fishing sessions.

Once Divine Judgement is unlocked, its effectiveness continues to improve as your Fishing Level increases.

There is also a cooldown between Divine Judgement activations, and multiple Tsunamis created by the same player cannot exist at the same time.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Note:** Effects such as **Hot Spot** do not stack with Divine Judgement's doubling effect.
{% endhint %}

#### Tribal Shout

**Tribal Shout** allows nearby players to receive part of the bonuses provided by your active Fishing Totem.

The amount of your Totem's effect shared with other players increases as your Fishing Level rises.

Your own Totem bonuses are **not reduced** by sharing them.

Totem effects also cannot be stacked by standing inside multiple overlapping Totems. If you're inside the range of your own Totem, your own effects take priority.

This makes Tribal Shout particularly useful for community fishing areas and group fishing sessions.

#### Combo Catcher

**Combo Catcher** rewards consecutive catches.

As you continue catching fish without stopping, you build a **Fishing Combo** that gradually improves your chance of catching higher-rarity fish.

Your Fishing Level determines how high your maximum combo can become.

If you go **30 seconds without catching a fish**, your combo resets.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Combo Catcher rewards long, uninterrupted fishing sessions - keep those casts going!
{% endhint %}

As a rough comparison, every **20 catches in your combo** provides a rarity boost similar to around **10 levels of the Master Fisherman Augment**.

#### Augment Infusion

**Augment Infusion** gives you a chance to recover some of the materials used when crafting Fishing Augments.

The chance improves automatically as your Fishing Level increases.

The refund chance is calculated individually for each material used in the recipe.

When a material successfully triggers the refund, **50% of that material is returned**.

For players planning to craft lots of Augments, this can save a considerable amount of resources over time.

### Resetting Your Skills

Changed your mind about where you've spent your Skill Points?

You can **respec** your Fishing Skills through the `/fish skills` menu.

A respec costs:

**50,000 Entropy**

This returns your spent Skill Points and allows you to redistribute them differently.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** Respeccing is not free, so it's worth thinking about where you want your points before repeatedly resetting your build.
{% endhint %}

***

### Increasing Fishing XP Faster

Catching higher-rarity fish will naturally give you more Fishing XP, but several other PyroFishing systems can also improve XP gains.

These include things such as:

* Fishing alongside other players through **Party Fishing**
* The **Sage** Fishing Augment
* The **Experienced Fisherman** Fishing Totem passive

These become more relevant as you progress further into PyroFishing.

### What Next?

Your Fishing Level and Skills connect directly with several other PyroFishing systems.

For more information, continue with:

**Entropy** - learn about the resource used for Augments, Deliveries and other upgrades.

**Augments** - learn how to create powerful upgrades for your fishing rod.

**Fishing Totems** - learn about one of PyroFishing's largest late-game progression systems.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Final reminder:** There isn't one correct Skill build. Spend your points on the parts of fishing you enjoy most, and remember that you can always respec later if you decide to change direction.
{% endhint %}
