# ✦ ── Ranged & Companion Skills

Coppercore has four mcMMO skills focused on ranged combat and animal companions:

* **Archery**
* **Crossbows**
* **Tridents**
* **Taming**

Archery, Crossbows and Tridents improve their respective weapons through passive damage bonuses and specialised abilities.

Taming works differently, improving your animal companions and unlocking additional bonuses for your wolves.

### Ranged Limit Break

Archery, Crossbows and Tridents each have their own version of **Limit Break**.

Limit Break adds bonus damage against **armoured players** and has 10 ranks:

| Rank | Skill Level |
| ---- | ----------- |
| 1    | 100         |
| 2    | 200         |
| 3    | 300         |
| 4    | 400         |
| 5    | 500         |
| 6    | 600         |
| 7    | 700         |
| 8    | 800         |
| 9    | 900         |
| 10   | 1,000       |

The amount of bonus damage applied depends on the quality of the target's armour, with heavier armour allowing more of the available bonus damage to apply.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Limit Break is configured for **PvP only** on Coppercore. It does not provide its additional damage against mobs.
{% endhint %}

### Archery

**Archery** is trained by damaging mobs or players using a bow.

Unlike most combat skills, Archery XP can be increased by **how you take the shot**.

#### Archery XP

Two things affect the XP earned from an arrow:

* **Bow draw strength**
* **Distance to the target**

You receive full draw-strength XP once the bow is drawn to at least roughly half power.

Long-distance shots also receive additional XP, up to a maximum distance bonus at **50 blocks**.

| Distance   | XP Multiplier |
| ---------- | ------------- |
| 0 blocks   | 1.00x         |
| 10 blocks  | 1.25x         |
| 20 blocks  | 1.50x         |
| 30 blocks  | 1.75x         |
| 40 blocks  | 2.00x         |
| 50+ blocks | 2.25x         |

This means landing long-range shots can train Archery considerably faster than shooting enemies at point-blank range.

#### Archery Abilities

| Ability                 | Unlock    | Effect                                                                  |
| ----------------------- | --------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Skill Shot**          | Level 1   | Permanently increases bow damage.                                       |
| **Daze** | Level 1 | Gives arrows a chance to disorient enemy players and deal extra damage. |
| **Arrow Retrieval** | Level 1 | Gives a chance to recover arrows from mobs killed with your bow. |
| **Archery Limit Break** | Level 100 | Adds bonus damage against armoured players. |

#### Skill Shot

Skill Shot passively increases the damage dealt by your arrows.

It has **20 ranks**, beginning at level 1 and continuing up to level 1,000.

Each rank adds another **10% bonus damage**, up to a theoretical +200% at Rank 20.

The additional damage from Skill Shot is capped so extremely powerful arrows cannot scale infinitely.

| Rank | Archery Level | Damage Bonus |
| ---- | ------------- | ------------ |
| 1    | 1             | +10%         |
| 5    | 250           | +50%         |
| 10   | 500           | +100%        |
| 15   | 750           | +150%        |
| 20   | 1,000         | +200%        |

#### Daze

Daze gives bow attacks a chance to disorient another **player**.

When it activates, the target:

* Has their view direction disrupted
* Receives Nausea
* Takes an additional **4 HP of damage**, equal to 2 hearts

Daze does **not** activate against mobs.

Its activation chance increases with Archery level and reaches a maximum **50% chance at level 1,000**.

#### Arrow Retrieval

Arrow Retrieval gives you a chance to recover arrows from mobs killed using your bow.

The chance increases alongside Archery and reaches **100% at level 1,000**.

Arrows fired using the **Infinity** enchantment cannot be recovered through Arrow Retrieval.

***

### Crossbows

**Crossbows** is trained by damaging mobs or players using a crossbow.

The skill focuses on increased bolt damage and the ability to ricochet projectiles from surfaces.

Crossbows currently has **no traditional active super ability**.

#### Crossbows Abilities

| Ability                   | Unlock    | Effect                                         |
| ------------------------- | --------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| **Powered Shot**          | Level 1   | Permanently increases crossbow damage.         |
| **Trick Shot** | Level 50 | Allows crossbow bolts to ricochet from blocks. |
| **Crossbows Limit Break** | Level 100 | Adds bonus damage against armoured players. |

#### Powered Shot

Powered Shot is the Crossbows equivalent of Archery's Skill Shot.

It has **20 ranks**, with each rank adding another **10% bonus damage** to crossbow shots.

| Rank | Crossbows Level | Damage Bonus |
| ---- | --------------- | ------------ |
| 1    | 1               | +10%         |
| 5    | 250             | +50%         |
| 10   | 500             | +100%        |
| 15   | 750             | +150%        |
| 20   | 1,000           | +200%        |

The additional damage is capped at **9 HP per bolt**, preventing the bonus from scaling indefinitely.

#### Trick Shot

Trick Shot allows crossbow bolts to **ricochet off solid blocks**.

Instead of immediately stopping when hitting a suitable surface, the projectile can bounce away in a new direction.

There are three ranks:

| Rank | Crossbows Level | Maximum Ricochets |
| ---- | --------------- | ----------------- |
| 1    | 50              | 1                 |
| 2    | 200             | 2                 |
| 3    | 400             | 3                 |

The angle of the initial impact matters. A shot that hits a surface too directly will simply hit the block normally, while a suitable glancing shot can ricochet.

Ricocheted bolts retain important properties from the original projectile, including things such as piercing and tipped-arrow effects.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Trick Shot is extremely situational, but it can let you hit targets from angles that would normally be impossible.
{% endhint %}

### Tridents

**Tridents** is trained by damaging mobs or players with a trident.

Both **melee strikes and thrown tridents** can train the skill.

Tridents currently focuses almost entirely on passive damage bonuses and has **no traditional active super ability**.

#### Tridents Abilities

| Ability                  | Unlock    | Effect                                      |
| ------------------------ | --------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| **Impale**               | Level 50  | Permanently increases trident damage.       |
| **Tridents Limit Break** | Level 100 | Adds bonus damage against armoured players. |

#### Impale

Impale adds flat bonus damage to trident attacks.

It has 10 ranks:

| Rank | Tridents Level | Bonus Damage |
| ---- | -------------- | ------------ |
| 1    | 50             | +1.5 HP      |
| 2    | 150            | +2.0 HP      |
| 3    | 250            | +2.5 HP      |
| 4    | 350            | +3.0 HP      |
| 5    | 450            | +3.5 HP      |
| 6    | 550            | +4.0 HP      |
| 7    | 650            | +4.5 HP      |
| 8    | 750            | +5.0 HP      |
| 9    | 850            | +5.5 HP      |
| 10   | 1,000          | +6.0 HP      |

The bonus applies to trident combat whether you're stabbing something at close range or introducing the trident to them from considerably further away.

### Taming

**Taming** improves animal companions, with most of its combat abilities specifically affecting **wolves**.

Taming XP can be earned by:

* Taming eligible animals
* Fighting alongside your tamed wolves

Different animals award different amounts of Taming XP when successfully tamed.

#### Taming Abilities

| Ability                   | Unlock    | Effect                                                               |
| ------------------------- | --------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| **Shock Proof** | Level 500 | Greatly reduces explosion damage taken by wolves. |
| **Sharpened Claws** | Level 750 | Permanently increases wolf attack damage. |

#### Beast Lore

Beast Lore allows you to inspect tameable animals and view additional information about them.

This can include information such as:

* Current health
* Maximum health
* Owner
* Additional statistics for certain animals

Use the interaction on a tameable animal to inspect it.

#### Call of the Wild

Call of the Wild allows you to summon a **temporary tamed companion**.

To activate it, **crouch and left-click** while holding the required item.

Coppercore currently allows three types of summon:

| Companion | Required Item | Cost | Duration  |
| --------- | ------------- | ---- | --------- |
| Wolf      | Bone          | 10   | 4 minutes |
| Ocelot    | Cod           | 10   | 4 minutes |
| Horse     | Apple         | 10   | 4 minutes |

One animal is summoned per activation.

You can have up to:

* **2 summoned Wolves**
* **1 summoned Ocelot**
* **1 summoned Horse**

active at the same time.

The items are consumed when the companion is summoned.

Call of the Wild companions disappear once their four-minute lifespan expires and **cannot be bred**.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Call of the Wild summons are temporary mcMMO companions. They are separate from permanently tamed animals.
{% endhint %}

#### Environmentally Aware

Environmentally Aware unlocks at **Taming level 100**.

It helps your wolves avoid environmental hazards such as lava and cactus damage and protects them from fall damage.

Basically, your dog gradually develops a functioning sense of self-preservation.

#### Gore

Gore unlocks at **level 150**.

Wolf attacks gain a chance to perform a powerful critical strike that:

* Deals **2x damage**
* Applies a bleeding effect to the target

The activation chance increases with Taming level and reaches a maximum **100% chance at level 1,000**.

#### Pummel

Pummel unlocks at **level 200**.

Wolf attacks gain a **10% chance** to strongly knock their target backwards.

This chance is fixed rather than increasing with Taming level.

#### Fast Food Service

Fast Food Service also unlocks at **level 200**.

Whenever one of your wolves successfully attacks something, it has a **50% chance to heal itself**.

This greatly improves the survivability of wolves during sustained combat.

#### Thick Fur

Thick Fur unlocks at **level 250**.

Your wolves gain:

* Reduced incoming damage
* Fire resistance

Physical damage is reduced to roughly **half its normal amount**.

#### Holy Hound

Holy Hound unlocks at **level 350**.

It helps your wolves survive certain magical damage by allowing them to regain health when affected by **magic or poison**.

#### Shock Proof

Shock Proof unlocks at **level 500**.

It massively reduces damage your wolves take from explosive attacks.

With Coppercore's current settings, affected explosion damage is reduced to approximately **one-sixth of its normal amount**.

#### Sharpened Claws

Sharpened Claws unlocks at **level 750**.

Once unlocked, attacks from your wolves permanently deal an additional:

**+2 HP damage**

This is equal to **1 extra heart of damage per attack**.

### No Super Abilities

Unlike skills such as Mining, Woodcutting or Swords, these ranged skills do not currently use the usual right-click activated mcMMO super abilities.

Most of their benefits are **passive** and activate automatically during combat.

Taming's Call of the Wild is manually activated, but functions separately from the normal timed super-ability system.
