# ✦ ── Getting Started, XP & Power Level

mcMMO progression is split across individual **Skills**, each with its own XP and level.

Most mcMMO XP is earned simply by performing the activity associated with a skill — mining, fighting, farming, fishing, brewing and more.

***

### Earning mcMMO XP

When you perform an eligible activity, XP is added to the relevant mcMMO skill.

For example:

* Breaking ores can earn **Mining XP**
* Cutting trees can earn **Woodcutting XP**
* Digging with a shovel can earn **Excavation XP**
* Fighting with a sword can earn **Swords XP**
* Brewing potions can earn **Alchemy XP**

Different blocks, mobs and activities can award different amounts of XP.

Coppercore uses a **linear XP curve**, so the amount of XP required increases gradually as a skill becomes higher level.

Your XP requirement is based on the skill you are training rather than your overall Power Level. Having a high Power Level therefore does not make your lower-level skills increasingly expensive to train.

***

### XP Bars

mcMMO XP bars are enabled across Coppercore's skills.

When gaining XP, a bar may appear at the top of your screen showing the skill you are currently training and your progress towards its next level.

These bars also update for passive activities such as brewing and smelting, as well as eligible XP shared through mcMMO Parties.

***

### Early Game Boost

mcMMO's built-in **Early Game Boost** is enabled.

This helps when first beginning progression in a new skill, giving newer skills an initial learning boost before normal progression takes over.

***

### XP Rates

Coppercore's overall mcMMO XP multiplier is **1x**, although individual skills and activities can have their own XP values or modifiers.

**Mining currently uses a 0.5x skill XP multiplier**, while the other directly-levelled skills use the normal 1x skill multiplier.

The individual skill guides explain their main XP sources in more detail.

***

### XP Farming & Exploit Protection

Some artificial methods of generating mobs or repeatedly farming particular mechanics are restricted from awarding mcMMO XP.

In particular, mobs originating from:

* **Mob Spawners**
* **Spawn Eggs**
* **Nether Portals**

give **0 mcMMO XP**.

mcMMO also has several anti-exploit protections enabled for things such as artificial block farming, fishing exploits and other repeatable farming methods.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** Coppercore does **not** use mcMMO's optional timed Diminished Returns system. Normal legitimate grinding is not gradually throttled simply because you've earned a lot of XP within a short period.
{% endhint %}

***

### Skill Levels & Retro Mode

Coppercore uses mcMMO's **Retro Mode**.

Retro Mode gives mcMMO its classic large-number level scale, with progression commonly shown across levels in the hundreds and thousands.

It effectively scales mcMMO's displayed level requirements and progression values by **10x** compared with Standard Mode.

This does **not** mean progression takes ten times longer - it mainly changes the scale used to represent your progression.

For example, something that would normally unlock around level 50 in Standard Mode may instead be represented around level 500 in Retro Mode.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** Level 1,000 is **not** a maximum level on Coppercore.
{% endhint %}

All 19 configured skills currently have **no level cap**, allowing continued progression beyond the levels where many abilities reach their maximum effect.

***

### Power Level

Your **Power Level** represents your overall mcMMO progression.

It is calculated from the combined levels of your mcMMO skills, excluding child skills.

For example, gaining:

* +10 Mining levels
* +5 Swords levels
* +20 Herbalism levels

would increase your Power Level by **35**.

**Salvage** and **Smelting** are child skills, so they do not independently add their displayed levels to your Power Level.

Coppercore also has **no Power Level cap**.

This means both individual skills and your overall Power Level can continue increasing indefinitely.

***

### Level Milestones

Coppercore broadcasts major mcMMO progression milestones.

Skill-level milestones are announced every **100 levels**, and Power Level milestones are also announced every **100 Power Levels**.

Level-up sounds are enabled as well, so you'll receive a little audio confirmation when a skill increases.

### mcMMO XP Boosts

Temporary mcMMO XP boosts can be obtained in two ways: through **Boost Vouchers** won from crates, or directly through the **Copper Coin Shop**.

Boosts apply across your mcMMO skills for a limited amount of time.

#### Copper Coin Shop

Use:

`/coinshop`

to purchase an mcMMO XP boost using Copper Coins.

| Boost       | Duration   | Cost             |
| ----------- | ---------- | ---------------- |
| 2x mcMMO XP | 20 minutes | 50 Copper Coins  |
| 2x mcMMO XP | 60 minutes | 90 Copper Coins  |
| 3x mcMMO XP | 30 minutes | 125 Copper Coins |

Boosts purchased from the Coin Shop **activate immediately** - you do not receive a voucher item.

#### Boost Vouchers

mcMMO XP Boost Vouchers can also be won from selected crates.

Vouchers may provide either:

* **2x mcMMO XP**
* **3x mcMMO XP**

Each voucher has its own duration shown on the item.

To activate one, **right-click the voucher** while holding it.

#### Checking Your Boost

Use:

`/boost`

to view your currently active XP multiplier and how much time remains.

Using another boost with the **same multiplier** extends the existing timer.

A different multiplier cannot be activated while another boost is already running.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Save your boosts for when you're planning to spend a decent amount of time training mcMMO - particularly slower skills.
{% endhint %}

***

#### Extending Boosts

If you use another voucher with the **same multiplier** while a boost is active, its duration is added to your existing timer.

For example, using another 2x voucher while a 2x boost is already running will extend that 2x boost.

You cannot activate a **different multiplier** while another boost is active.

For example, a 3x voucher cannot be activated while you still have a 2x boost running.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** If you have several vouchers, consider saving them for periods where you know you'll be actively training mcMMO skills.
{% endhint %}

***

### Death & Your Levels

Coppercore does not use mcMMO's Hardcore skill-loss system.

**Dying will not remove your mcMMO levels.**

Once you've earned your progression, you don't need to worry about losing a chunk of it because a Creeper decided you had lived long enough.

***

### Checking Your Progress

Use:

`/mcstats`

to view your mcMMO skill levels, XP and overall statistics.

Use:

`/mcrank`

to view your ranking across mcMMO skills.

Use:

`/mctop`

to view the server-wide mcMMO leaderboards.

More commands are covered in **Commands & Glossary**.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Final reminder:** mcMMO is designed to progress alongside normal survival gameplay. You don't need to grind every skill deliberately - use the skills you enjoy, and your levels and Power Level will naturally grow over time.
{% endhint %}
