# ✦ ── Abilities & Sub-Skills

Levelling an mcMMO skill does more than make a number go up.

Each skill contains different **Abilities** and **Sub-Skills** which can unlock new mechanics, improve existing actions or give you passive bonuses as your level increases.

Some activate automatically, while others need to be manually triggered.

***

### What is a Sub-Skill?

A **Sub-Skill** is an individual mechanic belonging to an mcMMO skill.

Examples include:

* Double Drops in Mining
* Roll in Acrobatics
* Critical Strikes in Axes
* Green Thumb in Herbalism
* Master Angler in Fishing
* Arcane Forging in Repair

Sub-Skills can work in several different ways.

#### Passive Sub-Skills

Passive Sub-Skills work automatically whenever their conditions are met.

For example:

* Mining's Double Drops can automatically give additional block drops.
* Acrobatics' Roll can automatically prevent fall damage.
* Axes' Critical Strikes can automatically deal increased damage.
* Fishing's Master Angler automatically reduces fishing wait times.

You do not need to activate these manually.

#### Chance-Based Sub-Skills

Many passives use a percentage chance.

Their activation chance may:

* Increase continuously with your skill level
* Increase at specific ranks
* Stop increasing once they reach a maximum level

For example, a Sub-Skill might begin with a 10% activation chance and gradually improve until reaching its maximum at level 1,000.

Other long-term abilities can continue progressing well beyond level 1,000.

#### Ranked Sub-Skills

Some Sub-Skills improve through specific **Ranks**.

Instead of becoming slightly stronger every level, they unlock another stage after reaching particular skill levels.

For example:

* Blast Mining has 8 ranks.
* Fisherman's Diet has 5 ranks.
* Limit Break has 10 ranks.
* Skill Shot has 20 ranks.

Your individual skill pages list the exact rank requirements for each ability.

### Super Abilities

**Super Abilities** are powerful, manually activated abilities that only remain active for a limited amount of time.

Most are found in Gathering and Melee Combat skills.

Coppercore currently has these Super Abilities:

| Skill       | Super Ability      | Activation                       | Cooldown  |
| ----------- | ------------------ | -------------------------------- | --------- |
| Mining      | Super Breaker      | Right-click with a Pickaxe       | 4 minutes |
| Mining      | Blast Mining       | Crouch + right-click towards TNT | 1 minute  |
| Excavation  | Giga Drill Breaker | Right-click with a Shovel        | 4 minutes |
| Woodcutting | Tree Feller        | Right-click with an Axe          | 4 minutes |
| Herbalism   | Green Terra        | Right-click with a Hoe           | 4 minutes |
| Swords      | Serrated Strikes   | Right-click with a Sword         | 4 minutes |
| Axes        | Skull Splitter     | Right-click with an Axe          | 4 minutes |
| Unarmed     | Berserk            | Right-click with an empty hand   | 4 minutes |

**Note:** Maces, Spears, Archery, Crossbows and Tridents currently rely on passive abilities rather than traditional Super Abilities.

### Activating a Super Ability

For most Super Abilities:

1. Hold the appropriate tool or weapon.
2. **Right-click** to ready the ability.
3. mcMMO will tell you that your tool is ready.
4. Perform the appropriate action within roughly **4 seconds**.
5. The Super Ability activates.

For example, to activate Super Breaker:

1. Hold a Pickaxe.
2. Right-click.
3. Break an eligible Mining block.
4. Super Breaker activates.

Simply right-clicking does not immediately begin the ability. It first puts your tool into its **ready state**.

If you do not perform the required action quickly enough, the ready state expires without using the ability.

#### Blast Mining

Blast Mining works differently from the other Super Abilities.

After reaching the required Mining level, crouch and right-click while looking at placed TNT while holding either:

* A Pickaxe
* Flint and Steel

Coppercore allows Blast Mining to remotely detonate suitable TNT from up to **100 blocks away**.

Blast Mining then immediately enters its **1-minute cooldown**.

***

### Super Ability Duration

The duration of standard timed Super Abilities increases with the level of their associated skill.

On Coppercore, the duration gains **1 additional second every 50 skill levels**.

The duration scaling stops increasing at level 1,000.

| Skill Level | Ability Duration |
| ----------- | ---------------- |
| 50          | 3 seconds        |
| 250         | 7 seconds        |
| 500         | 12 seconds       |
| 750         | 17 seconds       |
| 1,000+      | 22 seconds       |

This applies to the normal timed Super Abilities such as:

* Super Breaker
* Giga Drill Breaker
* Tree Feller
* Green Terra
* Serrated Strikes
* Skull Splitter
* Berserk

Blast Mining does not use this timed-duration system.

Higher levels therefore make Super Abilities useful for longer, even after their main effects have already been unlocked.

***

### Cooldowns

Once a Super Ability has been used, it enters a cooldown before it can be activated again.

Most Coppercore Super Abilities have a:

**4-minute cooldown**

Blast Mining is the exception with a:

**1-minute cooldown**

Use:

`/mccooldown`

to view your current mcMMO ability cooldowns and see which abilities are ready to use again.

mcMMO will also notify you when an ability refreshes.

***

### Preventing Accidental Activations

Right-clicking with tools is something Minecraft players do constantly, so accidentally readying a Super Ability can get annoying.

Use:

`/mcability`

to toggle Super Ability preparation on or off.

When ability preparation is disabled, right-clicking your tools will no longer ready their mcMMO Super Abilities.

Use the command again whenever you want to enable them.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Turning `/mcability` off can be useful while building if you keep accidentally preparing abilities such as Tree Feller or Super Breaker.
{% endhint %}

***

### Tool Durability

Coppercore has mcMMO's additional durability usage for tool-based Super Abilities enabled.

While these abilities are being used, your tool can take extra durability damage on top of its normal use.

This particularly matters for abilities which allow you to break large numbers of blocks very quickly.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tip:** Check your tool durability before activating abilities such as Tree Feller. The tree may be temporary. The emotional damage caused by deleting your favourite axe is eternal.
{% endhint %}

***

### Combat Abilities & Attack Cooldown

Coppercore's mcMMO combat abilities respect Minecraft's normal **attack cooldown**.

This means rapidly spam-clicking attacks can reduce:

* mcMMO bonus damage
* The effectiveness of certain combat bonuses
* The chance for some combat Sub-Skills to activate

Fully charged attacks receive their intended mcMMO effectiveness.

For combat skills such as Swords, Axes, Maces, Spears and Unarmed, timing your attacks properly is therefore usually better than clicking as quickly as physically possible.

***

### Unlock Notifications

When you reach the required level for a new Sub-Skill or rank, mcMMO will notify you that it has been unlocked.

You will also receive notifications for things such as:

* Gaining mcMMO XP
* Levelling a skill
* Readying a Super Ability
* Activating an ability
* An ability ending
* Trying to use an ability while it is on cooldown
* An ability becoming ready again

Important unlock and level-up information may appear in chat, while shorter ability information is generally shown through the action bar.

***

### Not Everything is a Super Ability

Some mcMMO mechanics require player interaction without technically being Super Abilities.

For example:

* **Call of the Wild** is manually triggered through Taming.
* **Shake** activates by hooking eligible mobs with a Fishing Rod.
* **Repair** and **Salvage** activate through their respective mcMMO Anvils.
* **Green Thumb** can trigger automatically while harvesting crops.

These mechanics do not necessarily use the normal Super Ability ready-state, duration or cooldown system.

***

### Viewing Your Abilities

Use the command for an individual skill to view your current level and Sub-Skill information.

For example:

`/mining`

`/swords`

`/herbalism`

`/fishing`

`/taming`

You can also use:

`/mcstats`

to view all of your mcMMO skill levels together.

For detailed descriptions, unlock levels and progression values, see the individual skill guides throughout this section.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Final reminder:** Passive Sub-Skills activate automatically, while Super Abilities normally need to be readied with right-click before performing the matching action. If you keep accidentally readying abilities, `/mcability` is your friend.
{% endhint %}
