# ✦ ── Painting Controls

Once you've placed a Canvas onto an Easel, you can sit down and start painting!

ArtMap uses a mixture of left-click, right-click, and items held in your main hand or offhand depending on what you're trying to do.

***

### Using the Easel

Right-click the canvas/easel to sit down and begin editing the artwork.

While seated, your view will be positioned in front of the canvas so you can paint directly onto it.

When you're finished, press your crouch key (Shift by default) to leave the easel.

***

### Painting With Dyes

To paint normally, hold the dye colour you want to use in your hand.

Each dye gives you access to its corresponding ArtMap colour palette.

#### Placing a Single Pixel

Left-click the canvas to place a single dot of colour.

This is useful for small details or precise pixel-by-pixel work.

#### Painting Over a Larger Area

Hold right-click and move your cursor across the canvas to continuously paint.

This lets you drag colour over a larger distance rather than clicking every individual pixel.

It's especially useful for lines, larger shapes, backgrounds, or colouring bigger sections of your artwork.

***

### Using the Fill Tool

The Fill Tool (Bucket) is used to quickly colour a connected area of the canvas.

To use it:

1. Put the dye colour you want to use in your offhand.
2. Hold the Fill Tool in your main hand.
3. Left-click the area of the canvas you want to fill.

The connected area will be filled using the colour from the dye in your offhand.

This is useful for filling larger sections or backgrounds without painting every pixel individually.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Be careful when using the Fill Tool on large areas, especially if two sections are connected by even a small gap or line.
{% endhint %}

### Using the Eyedropper

The Sponge acts as ArtMap’s Eyedropper tool.

It lets you pick a colour that is already on your canvas and reuse it without needing to remember which paint item originally created that shade.

To use it:

• Hold a Sponge in your main hand.\
• Left-click a colour on the canvas to select it.\
• Right-click the canvas to paint using the colour you picked.

This is especially useful when working with shades you’ve already mixed into your artwork.

***

### Flipping Your Artwork

A Compass can be used to flip your entire canvas.

• Left-click with a Compass to flip the artwork horizontally.\
• Right-click with a Compass to flip the artwork vertically.

This can be handy for correcting orientation, mirroring a design, or checking symmetry.

***

### Saving Your Artwork

Once you're happy with your painting, use the Paint Brush to save it.

The Paint Brush appears as a Redstone Torch in-game and is used to save/finalise the artwork.

When you left-click or right-click the canvas with the Paint Brush, an anvil-style naming menu will open.

To save your artwork:

1. Enter the title of your artwork into the text box.
2. Check that the name is spelled exactly how you want it.
3. Click the item in the output slot to confirm.

Your artwork will then be saved using the title you entered.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Artwork names cannot contain special characters, so stick to normal letters, numbers and spaces when naming your piece.
{% endhint %}
