# ✦ ── FAQ & Common Issues

Running into a problem with ArtMap? Check through the common questions below first!

If something still isn’t working as expected afterwards, feel free to make a support ticket and we’ll take a look. 🧡

***

### How do I start painting?

Craft an Easel and Canvas, place the Easel down, then use the Canvas on it.

Right-click the canvas to sit at the Easel, then hold one of ArtMap’s supported paint items and start painting.

• Left-click places individual pixels.\
• Hold right-click and move across the canvas to paint continuously.\
• Press Shift / Crouch to leave the Easel.

You can find the full controls on the Painting Controls page.

***

### Why isn’t my dye painting anything?

Make sure:

• You’re seated at the Easel.\
• There is a Canvas placed on the Easel.\
• You’re holding an item that ArtMap recognises as a paint colour.\
• Nobody else is currently using that canvas.

Not every item that looks like a dye is necessarily used by ArtMap, so check the Colours & Paint page if you’re unsure which item you need.

***

Why won’t my artwork save?

When saving with the Paint Brush, make sure the title you enter follows ArtMap’s naming rules.

Artwork titles must:

• Be between 3 and 16 characters long.\
• Contain only letters, numbers and spaces.\
• Be unique. Two artworks cannot have the same title.

Some inappropriate words may also be blocked by ArtMap’s title filter.

Once you’ve entered a valid title, click the output item in the anvil menu to confirm.

***

### What happens if I break an Easel before saving?

Unsaved artwork can be permanently lost if the Easel is broken.

Always save your artwork with the Paint Brush before removing the Easel.

If you’re unsure whether your painting has been saved, save it before doing anything with the Easel. Better safe than watching three hours of pixel art evaporate into the void.

***

### Why can’t I preview an artwork?

Your offhand needs to be empty before ArtMap can show you a preview.

Move anything currently in your offhand into your inventory, then try previewing the artwork again.

***

### Why can’t I make a copy of an artwork?

Only the original artist can create new copies of their artwork through ArtMap.

You’ll also need at least one Empty Map in your inventory.

When you create a copy:

• One Empty Map is consumed.\
• You receive a new copy of the saved artwork.

If somebody else created the artwork, you’ll need to get a copy from them instead.

***

### Can I rename someone else’s artwork?

No.

Only the original artist can rename their own artwork.

***

### Can I delete someone else’s artwork?

No.

Players can only manage and delete artwork that they created themselves.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Remember that deleting one of your artworks removes every copy of that artwork from the world, so be very sure before confirming deletion.
{% endhint %}

### I painted or filled the wrong area. Can I undo it?

ArtMap does not currently have a reliable general undo option.

For smaller mistakes, simply paint over the affected pixels again. If you need to remove colour entirely, use an **Eye of Ender** as Transparent paint.

When using the Fill Tool, be careful to check that the area you want to fill is properly enclosed before clicking.

***

### Why isn’t the Fill Tool using the colour I want?

The Fill Tool takes its colour from the paint item in your offhand.

To use it:

• Hold the Fill Tool in your main hand.\
• Put the colour you want in your offhand.\
• Left-click the area you want to fill.

If there’s no valid ArtMap paint item in your offhand, it won’t know which colour you want to use.

***

### How do I make part of my artwork transparent?

Use an Eye of Ender.

ArtMap treats Eyes of Ender as Transparent paint, allowing you to remove colour from pixels and create transparent areas in your artwork.

***

### How do I make a colour lighter or darker?

ArtMap has two special colour-adjustment tools:

• Coal → Shade, which darkens existing colours.\
• Feather → Tint, which lightens existing colours.

These modify the colour already on the canvas rather than replacing it with a completely different colour.

***

### Can I copy colours from my canvas or flip my artwork?

Yes. ArtMap includes an Eyedropper tool using a Sponge and a Flip tool using a Compass.

See the Painting Controls page for detailed information.

***

### Can I sell my artwork?

Absolutely!

Saved ArtMaps are normal items and can be sold through player shops just like other items.

If you want to sell multiple copies of the same artwork, make additional copies using Empty Maps first.

***

### Can other players edit my saved artwork?

No. ArtMap prevents players from editing artwork belonging to somebody else.

They can own, display, trade or buy copies of your artwork, but that does not make them the original artist.

***

### I forgot a recipe, colour or tool. Where can I check?

Use:

`/artmap`

The ArtMap menu contains:

• Crafting recipes\
• Available paint colours\
• Painting tools and their controls\
• Saved artwork organised by artist

You can always use the menu as a quick reference rather than memorising everything.

### Something still isn’t working!

If you’ve checked the relevant guide and ArtMap still isn’t behaving correctly, make a support ticket and let us know what happened.

If possible, include:

• What you were trying to do.\
• Which ArtMap item/tool you were using.\
• The name of the artwork, if applicable.\
• Any error message you received.\
• A screenshot or video if it helps show the problem.

We’ll take a look! 🧡
